Christopher Andrew Joannou is an Australian musician best known as the bassist for the Newcastle-based alternative rock band Silverchair. He was the first of the 3 members of the group to have a long haircut. Joannou was nicknamed "woodcutter" by fans for his love of trees and plaid shirt. Chris's teammate Ben Gillies taught him how to play the bass guitar. In addition to being a famous bass player, Joannou is also the assistant producer of the ARIA award-winning albums The Mess Hall Feeling Sideways and Notes From A Ceiling. He mostly used G&L and Fender Precision bass, and mostly used the Ampeg B-15 Portaflex combo mostly. In 2006, Joannou spoke at the launch of a mental health scholarship set up in honor of his cousin Nathan Trepezanov, who committed suicide at the age of 21 in January of the same year.
