More about the Awesome Foundation

There are currently 46 chapters local to the United States, meaning there is a good chance that potential awardees have a chapter near them.

Other than geographic chapters, six thematic chapters focus on an area of issue rather than a location, such as homelessness or disability.

Each chapter is allowed to set its parameters for what money can be spent on, but all of them promise a “no-strings-attached” payment, meaning it does not have to be repaid.

To increase the chance of receiving the $1,000, applicants can submit to multiple chapters.

The Awesome Foundation is offering $1,000

The Awesome Foundation is giving out grants of $1,000 to go-getters who have a project that needs funding.

Aside from basic identifying information, the application is quick to fill out, only asking the applicant to answer a few prompts:

  • “Tell us about your awesome project!
  • How will you use the money?
  • Tell us a little about yourself”

The project must be viable and likely to succeed, which means the applicant has to have already started work before applying for the grant.

“Most chapters show a strong preference for projects that contribute to their own communities, though some occasionally consider applications from further afield,” reads the company’s FAQ page.

California residents can get paid in $24 million settlement

Riverside Public Utilities in California settled a $24 million lawsuit following a class action.

The settlement came after the utility company charged fees that funded other government departments, which a judge ruled violated the state’s constitution.

Those residing in Riverside, a city east of Los Angeles, are set to receive payouts beginning in February.

Customers who had active accounts with the utility company between January 1, 2019, and November 4, 2021 are eligible for refunds.

Hefty customers have one week to apply for payments from settlement

Reynolds Products, which is the parent of Hefty, has agreed to a settlement of $3 million following a lawsuit.

The brand was sued for false advertising after allegedly claiming bags were recyclable when they weren’t.

The company admitted no wrongdoing but agreed to a settlement that customers can apply for.

The settlement applies to anyone who purchased products from the company marked “recycling” between July 20, 2018, and Aug. 30, 2023.

Those eligible can get $2 per item purchased, up to a maximum of $50 with proof of purchase.

Federal credits and rebates to counter energy-saving appliances

Americans can apply for tax credits and rebates to offset the costs of energy-saving appliances under the Inflation Reduction Act.

Households can receive a tax credit to cover 30 percent of the costs of installing a solar rooftop.

Families can also claim up to $1,200 in credit for energy-efficient windows and doors.

Some families can also apply for rebates of up to $8,000 for home efficiency improvements, per The White House.

Holiday checks for Alabama

Alabama has approved tax rebates for nearly 2 million residents.

To qualify, Alabama residents must have filed their 2021 taxes by the deadline.

For a single individual, a head of a family, or a married individual filing separately, the payout will be $150.

Jointly filing married couples will receive $300.

The checks are set to be distributed by December 29.
